William "Bill" Lemaster

William “Bill” Lemaster, 61, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2026, in Abilene, Texas. Bill was born on November 19, 1964, in Cheyenne to Van and Carol Lemaster.

Bill spent his early childhood in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, before moving to Cheyenne, where he would go on to build a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, adventure, and plenty of laughter.

Bill spent most of his life helping his father, Van, on the family wheat farm. He loved working alongside his dad, and some of his happiest days were spent on the farm with his dogs and his dirt bike.

Bill graduated from Central High School in 1983. He wrestled for both McCormick and Central and was a wrestling captain. After high school, he attended welding school in Casper, Wyoming. In the early 1990s, he also attended fire schools in Nevada and Texas.

Bill began his career with Coastal Chemicals in May 1985, working as an Operations Technician until 2001. He then worked as a welder for B&W Glass from 2001 to 2004, where he was involved in many projects throughout Cheyenne, including the Herschler Building and the CRMC Cancer Center.

In 1991, Bill married Dawn DeMott, who had a son that Bill considered his own. Together, they spent 10 fun-filled years and welcomed two daughters. Some of their happiest memories were made during summers at Lake McConaughy, where Bill’s love for the water and the outdoors truly came to life.

In April 2004, Bill began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor. He remained with Union Pacific for more than 22 years, continuing in that role until his passing. Even with the demands of railroad life and being away from home, Bill always made sure his mom and family knew he was safe. You could always count on a call from Bill.

While Bill worked hard throughout his life, he also knew how to have a good time. He was the kind of person who could turn an ordinary moment into a story people would laugh about for years. He was known for his quick wit, jokes, big personality, and the countless nicknames he gave to just about everyone he met. He rarely met a stranger and almost always had a smile on his face.

Bill loved being outdoors and was happiest when he was near the water. He loved jet skiing, fishing, bird hunting, walking his dogs, and spending time at the beach. In his younger years, he even raced jet skis. He was also a talented trap shooter, enjoyed welding, listening to hard rock, and faithfully cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But more than anything, Bill loved his family.

His children and grandchildren were his entire world. Being a dad was one of the greatest joys of his life, but becoming a grandpa brought him a whole new kind of happiness. He adored his grandchildren and took immense pride in each of them. He was a constant presence in their lives, spending as much time with them as possible and always making sure they knew just how important they were to him. His grandchildren adored their 'Papa Bill' and always knew that when he was around, there would be plenty of jokes, fun, and memories to be made.

Bill was dependable and loyal, and if someone needed him, he was there. He had a way of making people feel like family, and his presence could fill a room. He will be remembered not only for the things he accomplished, but for the laughter he brought with him, the stories he left behind, and the countless memories he created with the people he loved.

Bill is survived by his children, Jessica (Nate) Sainz, Jaime (Colton) Westby, and Bo Garton; his parents, Van (Mary) Lemaster and Carol (Michael) Lane; his brother, Phil (AJ) Lane; and his four beloved grandchildren, Sophia, Clayton, Baker, and Grace.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grace and Alfred Willis and Alice and Floyd Lemaster.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Event Center, located at 1230 W. 8th Avenue in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Bill was one of a kind. He lived life with a sense of adventure, never took himself too seriously, and made sure the people around him had a good time. He leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind stories that will be told, jokes that will be repeated, and a family who will carry his love with them for the rest of their lives.

He was a dad, a grandpa, a son, a brother, a friend, and, to so many people, the guy who could always make you laugh. Bill will be deeply missed and loved forever.
