Carpenter, Wyoming

Listen to Obituary

Wayne Eugene Stielow, 74, of Carpenter, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 30, 1951, in Russell, Kansas, to Robert Wayne and Ruby Virginia Stielow, Wayne lived a full and hardworking life marked by devotion to his family, his faith, and his community.

Wayne proudly served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975. During that time, in 1972, he met the love of his life, Gloria Jean Lammey, in Kimball, Nebraska. The two were married on June 30, 1974, in Grover, Colorado, and celebrated 51½ wonderful years together. They resided in Pine Bluffs from 1975 until 2011, when they moved to Carpenter.

A dedicated worker throughout his life, Wayne owned and operated the Standard/Sinclair gas station and Stielow Oil Company in Pine Bluffs from the early 80’s to 2002. After selling the station, he continued serving his community by driving a propane truck for Frenchman Valley Coop in eastern Laramie County until his retirement in 2017.

In his younger years, Wayne was an avid bowler, competing in both the men’s and co-ed leagues in Pine Bluffs. He enjoyed trap shooting, golfing, roller skating, and was well-known for having the best Donald Duck impression around. He was also a proud member of the Pheasants Forever High Plains Chapter.

Wayne loved sports of every kind. He faithfully cheered for the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and his beloved Kansas Jayhawks. Nothing made him happier than supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events, cheering them on with pride.

Wayne will be remembered for his strong faith, gentle spirit, unwavering love for his family, and his kind and generous heart.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sisters Kathi (Dan) Kaczar and Paula (Roger) Davidson; daughter Melissa (JD) Gallant; son Robert (Sherry) Stielow; granddaughters Brittney (Justin) White and Hannah (Jay) Daves; grandsons Aaron Gallant, Dylan Stielow, Mason Stielow, Gavin Stielow, and Logan Stielow; and great-grandsons Jeremiah and Noah White. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (“Bob”) and Virginia Stielow.

Services will be held at Crossroads Community Church on Tuesday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m., with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Cheyenne National Cemetery inside the High Plains Arboretum, west of Cheyenne.

In true Wayne fashion, he requested that those attending wear their favorite team’s attire. Oakland Raiders fans, however, will be asked to leave—per his wishes.
