We are sad to announce the passing of Toma Alger Schauffele Nisbet, who died peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old.
Born in Price, Utah, on April 18, 1946, Toma dedicated her life to caring for others. She earned degrees in nursing and public health from Northern Illinois University in 1969 and 1973, respectively, and continued her education in Advanced Practice Nursing, Education, Epidemiology, and Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) at the same institution.
Toma was a deeply committed health professional, serving in various roles within state public health in Illinois and Wyoming. She also maintained a private practice that served clients throughout Wyoming, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Toma was a vibrant spirit with a passion for the arts. She was a dedicated supporter of both visual arts and theater. A true nature lover, she cherished and championed the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. Toma also had a special place in her heart for cats, and her beloved feline companions brought her immense joy.
Toma was preceded in death by her husband and long-time partner Richard Nisbet (who passed away in 2009) and husband Marvin Wolf (who passed away in 2021).
She is survived by her brother, Terry Alger. Toma was a cherished stepmother to Allison N. Bryson, and her husband, Dan, of Caldwell Idaho; Matthew A. Nisbet, and his wife, Klaris, of Leland, Illinois; Meg A. Nisbet, of Harrisville, Michigan; and Elizabeth M. McNichols, and her husband, Quent, also of Harrisville. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren: Mark, Kristin, Leezanne, Shannon, Caitlin, Julia, and Carrie and their families. She also leaves behind many beloved family members and friends.
A casual celebration of Toma's life will be at The Botanical Gardens, 710 S Lions Park Dr, Cheyenne, WY 82001 on August 22, 2025 from 3-5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Toma's memory to organizations she deeply valued: the Cheyenne Symphony and the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens.
