Listen to Obituary

Timothy Howard Hammer, 62, of Cheyenne, died on May 27, 2026, following complications from longstanding health conditions.

Tim was born June 19, 1963 in Muncie, Indiana, the youngest child of Roger Hammer and Nancy Ludington Hammer. In 1971, he moved with his parents and three older siblings to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tim was an adventurous and fun loving child who especially loved playing with cars and trucks. Tim graduated from East High School in 1983 and took numerous courses at Laramie County Community College throughout his adult life.

As a teenager, Tim worked seasonally at Jackson Hole Lake Lodge and Winter Park ski resort. He later worked as a door greeter at the VA hospital before dedicating 15 years to working at the BX at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. He then worked for 13 years at Walmart, where he became especially well known and loved by the community during his time as a door greeter.

Tim faced significant physical challenges throughout his life. At age 7, he contracted encephalitis, which resulted in a speech impediment and muscle spasms. Two serious motorcycle accidents later compounded these difficulties, with the second accident at age 23 leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. Despite these hardships, Tim approached life with resilience, humor, and determination.

Tim was known for his kindness, generosity, and ability to make others laugh. He genuinely enjoyed connecting with people and his positivity and sense of humor left a lasting impression on many. He enjoyed the companionship of many special women throughout his life who appreciated his humor and charm, jokingly making his older brother looking like a “dud”. He taught his nieces and nephew how to play chess and enjoyed playing with family and friends, usually winning handily.

Tim also had a deep interest in science, particularly astronomy and space exploration, and loved spending time reading books, magazines, and articles on the subject.

Tim is survived by his father, Roger of Cheyenne; his sister, Christy Hammer of Scarborough, ME; his brother, Scott Hammer of Cheyenne; two nieces, Julie (Andrew) Bradley Kilger of Indianapolis, IN and Lela Dusek of Scarborough; one nephew, Derrick Howard (Alexandra) Hammer of Cheyenne; one great-niece, Cora Bradley of Indianapolis; two uncles, David Ludington of Farmland, IN and Bing Swallow of Parker City, IN; four aunts, Barbara Ludington of Farmland, Shirley Swallow and Marcia Ludington, both of Parker City, and Linda Faughnder of Muncie, several beloved cousins, and many dear friends, including Joy Kraner of Cheyenne, WY.

Tim was preceded in death by his mother and caregiver, Nancy; his sister, Tracy Hammer Kilger; his sister-in-law, Dina Hammer; his brother-in-law Val Dusek; four uncles, Fred Ludington, Larry Faughnder, Richard Hammer, and John Howard Hammer; and one aunt, Kathy Hammer.
