Tillie Pacheco passed away peacefully at home on August 31st, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Getrudis Cleotilde Griego on May 14, 1930, in Guadalupita, New Mexico, to Julio and Talpita Griego.
Tillie married the love of her life, Pedro (Pete) Pacheco, on January 28, 1947. They shared 76 years of marriage before his passing in 2022. Together they built a life in Cheyenne, Wyoming, raising five children: Simon (Judy) Pacheco, Frank (Fran) Pacheco, Ron (Rhonda) Pacheco, Cathy Pacheco Lujan, and Vicki Launer-Fisher. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family, which grew to include 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was especially proud of helping raise her grandchildren, and she loved to share stories about them with anyone who would listen.
Tillie was a caring and positive woman, well known for her warmth and kindness. She gave out compliments freely, never missing a chance to tell someone they were beautiful or handsome. She was also a gifted cook, famous for her green chili, and her home was always an open door where friends and family could gather for a meal and conversation.
A hard worker throughout her life, Tillie began working at the Sands Motel and Guest Ranch Motel as a teenager. Alongside her husband, she eventually became the owner of both motels before selling them and retiring in her 70s. She was deeply proud of the life she and Pete created — from the cabin where countless memories were made with their children and grandchildren, to the cruises and travels they enjoyed, to the home they built that became well known for its beautiful gardens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Pete; and her siblings Corcino, Cordilia, Lucille, Simon, Serefino, and Henry; Sons in law Todd Fisher and Manual Lujan.
Mom and Grandma, we will always think of you whenever we smell green chili simmering on the stove.
