Tary Rae Werts

Tary R. Werts, 76, of Cheyenne passed from this life Monday, July 27 at Life Care Center in Cheyenne with his loving daughter by his side, after a 4 year struggle with cancer. Tary was born to Roger and Charlotte Werts on November 25, 1949, in Davenport, IA. He lived in Bettendorf, IA throughout his school career graduating from Bettendorf High School in 1968. Tary attended the University of Iowa, and later Kearney State College, (now University of Nebraska at Kearney) graduating with a B. S. Degree in 1973.

On January 22, 1972, Tary married Diana Salm in Iowa, City, IA, where they met and married the love of his life while he was attending college and continuing work for Eagle Grocery. After their marriage they moved to Kearney, NE, where he worked and finished college. Upon graduating Tary and Diana moved to North Platte, NE where their only child Michelle was born. Initially Tary worked for Safeway, but later began working for the Union Pacific Railroad where he was a brakeman and a conductor. Railroad work eventually brought Tary and his family to Cheyenne in 1976.

Tary and his family enjoyed camping, and he was active in Family Campers and RVRS, organizing and attending outings. Tary along with his wife, was also a master bargain hunter and could identify the best grocery deals each week in Cheyenne. He tinkered with motors, computers, old cars, and was actively passionate with his political views. Tary was a devoted family man. He cared deeply for his family, and was thrilled with the birth of his only grandchild, Natalie.

Tary is survived by his daughter Michelle Schein (Randy), granddaughter Natalie Schein, of Guernsey, WY; brothers Gary Werts (Diana), Bettendorf, IA and Bary Werts, North Platte, NE; sister Peggy Mackey (Dana), Fremont, NE; aunt Deloris Werts, Russell, IA; brother-in-laws Terry Salm (Ellen) Vero Beach, FL; Randy Salm (Denise) and Jeff Salm (Tina), both of Iowa City, IA; and sister-in-law Jean Cooney (Bill) Kalona, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Diana; father, Roger Werts; mother Charlotte Werts; brother Cary Werts; father-in-law August Salm; mother-in-law Phyllis Salm, brother-in-law Tom Salm; Sister-in-laws Susan Werts, Tammy Salm and Shirley Herdliska.

At Tary’s request there will be no service.
