Stephen Ray Keyt passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2026. Steve lived to hunt and fish and nearly every conversation included stories of his adventures. His love of the hunt took him to Russia, Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, British Columbia and Quebec, Canada, and throughout the United States. His fondest memories were of six African safaris with his wife, Donna. Their son Tim and friends Gerald and Marilyn Beemer and Pat and Dennis Church joined them on multiple safaris. Steve built a two-story basement to showcase his museum-worthy mount collection, which many visitors admired. He led so many of us on unforgettable adventures and taught us to laugh and enjoy life. For more than 50 years, Steve owned and operated Keyt Construction, a concrete and foundation business in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There is a good chance you have been in a building with a foundation poured by his company. After retiring, Steve often enjoyed weekly coffee and breakfast with Gordy Hayes, Rex Christensen, and Dennis Church, who also joined him on hunting trips.
Steve was born to Ross Leon Keyt and Ruth Anna Burke on March 3, 1943, in Tabor, Iowa. At age 14, he moved to Gravity, Iowa, where he soon met his lifelong best friend, Gerald Beemer. That same year in Gravity, he met the love of his life, Donna Karon Weil. After four years of dating, they married at North Christian Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on September 20, 1961. Steve is survived by his wife, Donna Keyt; daughter, Annette Beach (Charlie); son, Tim Keyt (Clara); granddaughters, Natasha Willet (Matt) and Sariah Caudle; great-granddaughters, Peri and Penny; brother, Robert Keyt; many nieces and nephews, and his best friend of 70 years, Gerald Beemer, and his wife, Marilyn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leroy Keyt (Connie); and his sister, Rachel Adams (Chuck).
