Richard D. Jacoby, 90, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home on May 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of Cheyenne, Richard was known, loved, and respected by many throughout the community.
Richard was born on October 2, 1935, in Cheyenne to Robert and Connie Jacoby. Coming from a large family, he was the eldest of ten siblings. He attended Cheyenne Central High School and graduated in 1954. Following graduation, Richard proudly served in the United States Army. After his military service, Richard began his lifelong career in the barber industry. In 1962, he opened Dick’s Barbershop, where he barbered for 58 years before retiring at the age of 84. Richard was passionate about his work and cherished the friendships and bonds he formed with his clients during the 60 years he barbered. He often said he never worked a day in his life because he truly loved what he did.
Richard was also a loyal supporter of the University of Wyoming Cowboys and faithfully followed both the football and basketball teams as a dedicated member of the Wyoming "Cowboy Joe Club". Cheering on the Cowboys was one of his greatest joys. He was also a member of American Legion Post 6. Above all, Richard was a devoted family man. He shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sophie Jacoby. Together, they raised two children, son Richard “Rick” Jacoby and daughter Lynn Sherman.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sophie; son, Rick Jacoby (Emily Jacoby); daughter, Lynn Sherman; grandchildren, Richie Jacoby (Leah McKinley), Tamara Jacoby, Darcy Castaneda (Danny Castaneda), Abby Sherman (Jason Creel); great-grandchildren, Adalyn Munoz, Makenzy Creel, Cayden Creel, and Cade Castaneda; siblings, Clyde Jacoby (Loretta Jacoby), Walter Jacoby (Judy Jacoby), John Jacoby, Ruby Tomlinson, Daisy Garcia, and Mary Jane Anderson; sister-in-law, Connie Jacoby; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Connie Jacoby; brothers, Lloyd and Tony Jacoby; sister, Carmen Trujillo; infant grandson, Michael Jacoby; and infant great-grandson, Mattek Castaneda.
Richard will be remembered as a genuine man of integrity and honesty whose kindness touched countless lives. He remained active until the age of 88, starting his day with 100 pushups, endless walking, and enjoying coffee with his friends. He enjoyed yard work and took great pride in how his lawn looked. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Obituary written with love by his adoring great granddaughter, Adalyn Munoz.
To honor Richard, please consider donating to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
