Listen to Obituary

Randy Long (74) went home to be with his Lord Jesus on April 15, 2026 at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne, Wyoming, while surrounded by family. Born in Coral Gables, Florida on October 1, 1951, Randy spent most of his life in the Sunshine State until recently living out his cowboy aspirations in Wyoming.

Randy graduated from Florida State University in 1973 with a B.S. in Criminology. He received his Master of Social Work from Barry University in 1982 and later earned his license as a nursing home administrator. Randy began his long career in retirement community administration in 1983 in Hialeah, Florida. He managed several retirement communities in South Florida leading to his position as executive director of the Glenview at Pelican Bay in Naples, Florida from 1998 to 2015 where he earned many awards for staff achievements and excellence. Randy was active for years with the Naples Rotary Club, his church outreach and youth programs, and his children and stepchildren's various activities. Randy will be remembered for his strong faith, his daily service to others, and his enthusiasm for gardening, butterfly propagation, and collecting shark teeth.

Randy will be dearly missed by his wife of 22 years Claire Long; son Bryan Long of Gainesville, Florida and daughter Ashley (Christopher) Hong (his children of a previous marriage) and grandson Leon Hong of Saint Paul, Minnesota; stepson Levi Lind of Otto, N. Carolina and stepdaughter Rachel (Max) Ranschau-Schneider of San Diego, California; sister Karen (Kim) Autrey of Maitland, Florida; cousin Glenn (Mary) Goetz of Amana, Iowa; stepmother Rosalba “Nena” Long of Miami, Florida; nieces and nephews with their spouses and children; and his two adopted rescue dogs Penny and Ella.

Randy is greeted in heaven by both of his parents Donald H. Long and Elizabeth Violet “Vi” (née Nagy) Long.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Black Dog Animal Rescue of Cheyenne at bdar.org

Returning Randy's ashes to the earth at Vedauwoo, Wyoming is planned for June 20, 2026 with lunch to follow at the Bunkhouse.
