Nancy Louise Matz, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, was born on October 12, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She entered the world as an identical twin, sharing a unique bond that would define much of her life's journey. Nancy passed away on April 15, 2025, at Davis Hospice Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
Growing up, Nancy spent many cherished summers at Geneva on the Lake in Ohio, surrounded by her cousins, creating vivid memories from the age of 8 to 16. These early experiences shaped her adventurous spirit and love for family, which would guide her through the years.
Following her graduation from high school in June 1967, Nancy ventured out into the professional world. She began her career at Rockwell Manufacturing Company and later worked at Western Electric before taking on the role of Office Administrator for multiple companies, with her most recent position being at Cheyenne Eye Clinic, where she retired. Her dedication and work ethic were evident in every role she held, showcasing her ability to balance professional prowess with her nurturing nature.
In 1970, Nancy relocated to Aurora, Colorado. On December 15, 1972, Nancy married the love of her life, Russell Matz, and together they embarked on a journey that blessed them with three wonderful children. The family inherited a 1,000-acre farm in Chugwater, Wyoming, where Nancy took immense pride in raising her kids and fostering a loving home. Her nurturing spirit and strong character helped shape their values and aspirations. In 1988, she moved to Cheyenne, where she would later get divorced in 1991. She lived in Cheyenne until her passing, remaining a steadfast friend and a devoted mother to her children.
Throughout her life, Nancy was proud of her accomplishments, especially the family she nurtured and raised. Her love for her children—Kathy Matz, Nick Matz, and Carol Powell (Matz)—was boundless, and her memory will continue to be cherished in their hearts. She embodied love, warmth, and kindness, teaching her children the importance of family and the strength found in difficult times.
Nancy is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Stephen Stupak and Anna Stupak (Karaman), who instilled in her the values of resilience and integrity, and brother, Steve Stupak. Their memory lives on through Nancy's own legacy, reflected in the lives of her surviving family members and friends.
As we mourn the loss of this incredible woman, we are reminded of the laughter, the lessons, and the love she shared with all who knew her. A graveside service will be held on May 3, 2025, at Iowa Flats Cemetery in Chugwater, Wyoming, allowing family and friends to gather and celebrate Nancy's remarkable life.
Nancy Louise Matz will forever be remembered as a loving mother and an irreplaceable friend, whose spirit will continue to guide her loved ones through the days to come.
