Miriam Fernandez

Miriam de la Caridad Fernandez Valdes, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8th, 2026, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Born on January 2nd, 1943, in Guane, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Miriam was the beloved matriarch of her family’s generation; mother of Mailyn Salabarria, and life’s partner of Julio Ernesto Salabarria; sister of Yolanda Cecilia Fernandez Valdez; motherly aunt of Margarita, Mariela and Marlen Salabarria and Antonio Bermudez, and the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren born in Cuba, Spain and the United States.

She was a woman of unseen strength and resilience, devoted of the Virgin of La Caridad del Cobre -the saint patron of Cuba, lover of music, sunflowers and the color yellow … with a unique cooking and hosting talent.

She was preceded in death by Oscar Fernandez (father), Paula Valdes (mother), Mercedes Fernandez (sister), Roberto Fernandez (brother), Manuel Alberto Salabarria (brother-in-law)

She is survived by her life’s partner, Julio Ernesto Salabarria; daughter, Mailyn Salabarria; grandchildren, Adrian, Aranzazu, Elianny, Ernesto Javier, Alain Manuel, Darian, Nicolas and Victoria Grace. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Miriam will be remembered for her willpower and strength to overcome adversities, her love of music and cooking, and her energy to always make friendships everywhere she went. Her joyful and happy self always brought light and laughter.

Her life will leave a lasting mark on all who knew her.

Not only that, but her family remembers her as a loving mother whose sacrifices shaped generations, leaving a legacy that crossed borders. She longed to see a free Cuba and wanted her final resting place to be in the land where she was born.

A funeral service will be held on Friday March 27th, at 2:00 pm, at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes, 1900 E 19th St, Cheyenne, WY 82001.

The service will be live streamed, so friends a family overseas can also be a part of it.

Immediately after, there will be a celebration of life gathering at the Sonoma Room, at The Office Restaurant, 1600 E Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne, WY 82001.

Miriam loved the color yellow and did not like to dress in black. She always wanted her celebration of life to become a gathering of loved to remember happy and joyful moments. If you are so inclined, dress in colors and bring a sunflower to honor her.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.

Miriam de la Caridad Fernández Valdés, de Cheyenne, Wyoming, falleció en paz el domingo 8 de marzo de 2026, en su hogar en Cheyenne, rodeada de su familia y seres queridos.

Nacida el 2 de enero de 1943 en Guane, Pinar del Río, Cuba, Miriam fue la matriarca de su generación familiar, madre de Mailyn Salabarria y compañera de vida de Julio Ernesto Salabarria; hermana de Yolanda Cecilia Fernández Valdés; tía y figura maternal para Margarita, Mariela y Marlen Salabarria, y Antonio Bermúdez; y orgullosa abuela de ocho nietos nacidos en Cuba, España y Estados Unidos.

Fue una mujer de fortaleza y resiliencia silenciosas, devota de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre —la santa patrona de Cuba—, amante de la música, de los girasoles y del color amarillo, con un talento muy especial para la cocina y para recibir a todos en su hogar con generosidad y calidez.

Le precedieron en la muerte su padre, Oscar Fernández; su madre, Paula Valdés; su hermana, Mercedes Fernández; su hermano, Roberto Fernández; y su cuñado, Manuel Alberto Salabarria.

Le sobreviven Julio Ernesto Salabarria; Mailyn Salabarria; su hermana y sobrinas, y sus nietos, Adrian, Aranzazu, Elianny, Ernesto Javier, Alain Manuel, Darian, Nicolás y Victoria Grace.

También deja numerosos familiares y amigos que atesorarán siempre su memoria.

Miriam será recordada por su voluntad y su fortaleza inquebrantable para sobreponerse a las adversidades, por su amor a la música y a la cocina, y por esa energía suya de sembrar amistades dondequiera que iba. Su alegría y espíritu luminoso llevaban siempre luz, calidez y risas a quienes la rodeaban.

Su vida dejó una huella perdurable en todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

Su familia la recuerda como una madre, tía y abuela amorosa, cuyos sacrificios marcaron generaciones y dejaron un legado que cruzó fronteras.

Anhelaba ver una Cuba libre y deseaba que su descanso final fuera en la tierra que la vio nacer.

El servicio fúnebre se celebrara el viernes 27 de marzo, a las 2:00 p. m., en Wiederspahn Radomsky, Chapel of the Chimes, 1900 E 19th St, Cheyenne, WY 82001.

El servicio será transmitido en vivo para que familiares y amigos en el extranjero también puedan acompañarla y ser parte de este momento.

Inmediatamente después, se llevará a cabo una recepción para celebrar su vida en el salón Sonoma, en The Office Restaurant, 1600 E Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne, WY 82001.

A Miriam le encantaba el color amarillo y no le gustaba vestirse de negro. Siempre quiso que su celebración de vida fuera un encuentro entre seres queridos para recordar momentos felices y llenos de alegría. Quienes así lo deseen, pueden asistir vestidos de colores y llevar un girasol en su honor.
