Michael "Mike" Martin, 74, of Cheyenne, passed on 4/3/25 with his wife by his side. He was born on October 31, 1950 in Omaha, NE to Sabine and Robert Martin. Mike graduated from Western New England College with a degree in English. He went on to marry his wife of 52 years, Cindy, in 1972. Mike lived in three states in his lifetime including Massachusetts, Nebraska and, most recently, Wyoming. Over the years, Mike held a number of jobs including numerous sales roles, owning a grocery business, and working for the City of Cheyenne. He had impeccable "people" skills and was always much loved by his colleagues and customers. Mike took time for others, and his kindness and care for people helped create a supportive atmosphere wherever he worked. Mike was an avid Notre Dame football and Boston Red Sox baseball fan, and you could usually find him dressed in the fan gear of these two teams. His faith was always at the center of his life as a devout Catholic. Mike was a decades long member of the Lions Club, serving in multiple leadership positions and raising money for the organization. The Lions Club's mission of preventing avoidable blindness and improving the lives of the visually impaired was so important to Mike that he donated his corneas for medical research upon his death.
Where Mike really shined was in his role as a husband and father. Mike and Cindy were blessed with two daughters who benefitted greatly from his peaceful nature and quiet love. He was the kind of father who would play kickball with his kids in the backyard, create imaginative bedtime stories when sleeping was tough and tease his daughters affectionately to lighten the mood. He once sat through an entire 90's boy band concert, because his then 12 year old daughter was desperate to go, a true sacrifice. Mike, many times, drove across the state of Nebraska and beyond to bring his daughter to her competitive softball tournaments--that's a lot of minivan time spent by a devoted father. In more recent years, he would make himself available for teary phone calls or a needed listening ear for his kids. Mike was an incredible listener and had a way showing his support by his ability to be truly present, a beautiful and rare human trait.
Mike is survived by his wife Cindy, daughters Amy Martin and Lauren Hines, sons-in-law Howard Wasserman and Lerone Hines, grandchildren Elle, Lia, Levi and Luke Hines, and brother Carl Martin. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Martin and brother Robert Martin.
