Listen to Obituary

Milnor Herrera, 81, of Severance, C.O., passed away on April 26 at Pathways Inpatient Care Center in Fort Collins, C.O.

He was born on October 13, 1944, in Cleveland, N.M., to Claudio Herrera and Cecilia Bernal. Milnor attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1963. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wyoming in 1972 and later completed a master’s degree in education in 1983. Over the course of nearly 30 years, he taught elementary students at Hebard, Churchill, and Anderson Elementary Schools in Cheyenne, W.Y.

He served proudly in the Wyoming Air National Guard for 20 years. Deeply committed to his community, he taught religious education classes and served as a child advocate for at‑risk youth through CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Laramie County. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and reading, but nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his family.

Milnor is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jessie Herrera of Severance, C.O.; his daughters from a previous marriage, Kathrine Patton (Michael) of Severance, C.O. and Anne Herrera of Windsor, C.O.; and his stepchildren, Audrey Fuller of Commerce City, C.O., Joseph Anderson (Ashley) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Paul Anderson of Lenexa, Kansas. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren—Christopher, Candace, Jacob, Alyssa, Christian, Emilee, Abigail, Blaze and Jack—and two great‑grandchildren, Ella and Colby.

He is further survived by six siblings: Manuel Herrera, Mercy Silva, Jean Rodriguez, and Jane Castro, all of Cheyenne, W.Y.; Marta Soriano of Broomfield, C.O.; and Caroline Presson of Monroe, N.C.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Miguel; his sister, Inez; and his stepdaughter, Melissa Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Presson, Brian Soriano, Thomas Castro, Gabriel Herrera, Chris Rodriguez, Matt Rodriguez, Michael Patton, Jacob Patton, and Jack Patton.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Pathways Inpatient Care Center for their exceptional care and compassion.

Funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with interment to follow at Olivet Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Milnor's memory to CASA of Laramie County.
