Max. P. Salas, Sr. passed away on June 20, 2025, at his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was born on May 13, 1930, in Piedra Lumbrea, New Mexico. Throughout his life, Max embraced his family, his career, and his passions with an unwavering dedication that will be cherished by those who knew him.
In 1947, Max moved to Cheyenne to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, a role that would define a significant portion of his professional life. His commitment to his work and community reflected his strong work ethic and integrity, traits that he instilled in his family and peers alike.
Max was married to the love of his life, Vera, whom he wed at Our Lady of Sorrow Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The couple enjoyed a fruitful life together, building a home filled with love before ultimately relocating to Wyoming. They shared many joyful moments, particularly relishing family reunions on the 500-acre ranch where he was born—a place that held a special significance in his heart.
An avid outdoorsman, Max loved to watch boxing on television and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His pastimes were not just hobbies but a means to connect with nature and foster ties with his family, creating lasting memories that will endure in their hearts.
Max is survived by his son, Max (Maria); daughters, Cheryl, Jane, and Sandra; grandchildren, Mark (Kim), Matthew, Bobby (Doneisha), Kim, and Matt; great-grandchildren, Justin (Mary), Isaac (Kelsie), Mason (McKenna), and Addison; siblings, Tony, Mary (Ted) and Connie; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his warm spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; his parents, Toribio Salas and Delphina (Gallego); and siblings, Ted, Manuel, Delphino, and Petra.
Max’s life will be celebrated with a Vigil for the Deceased at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes on June 26, 2025 at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church on June 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with interment at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. The day will conclude with a gathering at St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Hall.
Max P. Salas, Sr. will be remembered as a devoted family man whose legacy will live on through his loved ones.
