Matthew Allen Nickel

February 5, 1965 — June 27, 2025

Carr, Colorado

Matthew Allen Nickel, affectionately known as "Matt," left this world on June 27, 2025, at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on February 5, 1965, in Wheatland, Wyoming, he was an only child who grew up in a world filled with love and laughter, ultimately becoming an outstanding citizen and devoted family man.

Matt dedicated four years of his life to serve in the Navy, where he excelled as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer aboard the battleship New Jersey. His meticulous nature shone through in every task he undertook, earning him respect and admiration from his peers. After his military service, he transitioned to a fulfilling career with Coca-Cola, where for 19 years he continued to embody his commitment to excellence as a bottle can technician.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Matt was a loving husband to Sharon J. Nickel (Winner), whom he married on August 18, 1990. Their union was not simply a ceremony but a celebration of love, punctuated by joyful memories shared over the years. To them, every moment was precious, whether they were traveling together or attending Chicken Festival Hatchery—experiences that cemented their bond even further.

Matt was also a proud father to Bailey and Ashley Nickel, embracing the role of 'Papa' with immense joy, particularly relishing his time with his sidekick “Munchkin.” His nurturing spirit extended not just to his human family but to his beloved pets as well—a testament to his caring personality. He shared his home with 9 dogs, with Lily and Odee holding a special place in his heart, along with an astonishing collection of over 100 birds, including chickens, ducks, geese, and the ever-watchful turkey.

A lifetime member of the VFW, Matt took pride in his community involvement, not just through his service but by being an active participant in the lives of those around him. His hobbies, simple yet profoundly enjoyable, included indulging in the comforts of a good nap, often found wearing his favorite ball cap. His gentle spirit resonated through every aspect of his life, defining him as a man who found beauty in both the grand and the ordinary.

Matt's graveside service will take place at Cheyenne National Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm, at the Cheyenne National Cemetery 8611 Hildreth Rd, where he will be honored by those whose lives he touched.

Matthew Allen Nickel will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and celebrated for his unwavering commitment to family, friends, and his community, leaving behind an imprint of kindness that will resonate for years to come.
