Dr. Karen Jane (Harvey) Bowen was born August 10, 1982. She passed away peacefully June 22, 2026 after a lifetime of memories.
Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She enjoyed 19 years of marriage with her husband Brad, cherished her time and close relationship with her sister Katie and relished being the rock of the family, and was especially devoted to her daughter Jocelyn (Jocie). She was Jocie’s biggest supporter. She always wanted Jocie to know that she could do anything she set her mind to and was the most encouraging voice through any obstacle.
Karen was proud to be a nurse and educator. She showed the world that nurses could do anything they wanted to do. Her career spanned many different roles, from working as a CNA, LPN, Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department to being the Dean of Health Science and Wellness, with many experiences in between. One of her greatest career accomplishments was completing her PhD in Nursing.
Karen had the unique ability to empower those around her through sharing her thoughts and advice, or just offering a friendly smile when it was needed the most. Those who knew her were stronger because of her.
She loved a good family dinner. Family did not just mean relatives, this meant anyone she was close to. Many times she would schedule dinners for a Sunday evening so everyone could start their week off together, or on a Friday night so stories of the week could be shared.
Karen never missed the opportunity to take a picture with family and friends. She would often reflect on the pictures and share about the location, event or accomplishment. Each picture brought her great joy.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Robert and Paula Harvey.
She is survived by her husband Brad, daughter Jocie, sister Katie (Larry) Thompson, father and mother-in-law Mike and Linda Bowen, sister-in-law Mindy (Michael) Roberson, niece Julia Roberson, nephew John Roberson, Granny (Kathryn Bowen) and numerous others that she considered family.
