Karen Lee Bagby, a beloved educator and cherished member of the community, passed away on July 8, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Born on August 14, 1940, in St. Charles, Minnesota, Karen dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and making a difference in the world of education. She began her teaching career at Houston Elementary School in 1961, holding various positions at distinguished schools such as St. Charles Elementary School, Goins Elementary, and Buffalo Ridge Elementary, tirelessly inspiring her students for a total of 42 years.
A graduate of St. Charles High School in 1958, Karen furthered her education at Winona State College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science in 1961. She later expanded her knowledge at Lesley College in Cambridge, acquiring her Masters of Science in Education in 1989. Beyond her formal education, Karen was a beautiful person, embodying kindness, compassion, and a love for learning.
Over the course of her life, Karen was actively involved in several organizations that reflected her devotion to education and community, including Kappa Delta Pi Sorority, the American Association of University Women, the National Education Association, and the Wyoming Education Association. She was also a valued member of the Cheyenne Teacher's Education Association and participated in the Relief Society and Regional Representative at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solidifying her commitment to both her faith and her service to others.
She is survived by her loving husband, Myron Bagby, and two sons, Richard B. Nordell (Stacey) and Marc J. Bagby (Amber). Karen is also remembered fondly by her sister Elaine Berg and her brother James Wendt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil D. Wendt and Leona M. Wendt (Loppnow).
The thing that brought her the most joy was family and most importantly being a "Grammy", her grandchildren were a pride and joy for her! She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, sending cards and gifts, calling and FaceTiming her grandchildren. Nate, Matt, Sawyer, Marley and Heston have been strongly influenced by her and will always have her in their hearts.
Karen's legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched throughout her teaching career and the warmth she shared with all who knew her. Her contributions to education, being an infinite learner and her engagement in community activities reflect a life dedicated to uplifting those around her.
Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate Karen's life during a viewing on July 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 9:30 AM, both held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 7721 N Badger Road. Her zest for life and unwavering spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
