Joseph William McCord, 68, passed away on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a proud father, a devoted grandfather, a loyal friend, and one of the hardest-working men you could ever hope to know.
Joe spent more than 40 years serving the people of Wyoming through his work with the State, a career he was deeply proud of. Even after retirement, he remained actively involved with the Wyoming Public Employees Association, continuing to advocate for others and stay connected to the people he cared about. His work ethic did not end there. Joe was also the owner and operator of Joe’s Janitorial Service, a business he built through determination, integrity, and a willingness to work harder than anyone else. But of all the accomplishments in his life, nothing brought him more pride than his family. His daughters, Jennifer and Mary, were deeply loved, and he was proud of the women they became. They knew they could always count on their dad. That love only grew when he became a grandfather to Kayden, Zoey, Kourtnee, Sienna, and Presley. Joe adored his grandchildren and embraced every moment he could spend with them. He celebrated their accomplishments as if they were his own and bragged about them to anyone willing to listen. He truly put the “grand” in Grandpa. Joe also treasured his friendships. He loved spending time on the golf course, around a pool table, fishing at the lake, and traveling to Las Vegas and Arizona with friends who became family over the years. His friendships spanned decades and were among his life’s greatest treasures. Those who knew Joe will remember a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and gave generously of himself. They will remember his loyalty, his sense of humor, his stubborn determination, and the pride he took in providing for those he loved. Joe is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Dan) Mauk and Mary (Justin) Salas; his grandchildren, Kayden Salas McCord, Zoey Salas, Kourtnee Salas, Sienna Mauk, and Presley Mauk; and his siblings, Diane Hatch, Jimmy McCord, and Jeff McCord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie McCord, and his brothers, Jerry McCord and Johnny McCord. Joe’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends who loved him, and the countless lives he touched along the way. To have been loved by him was a gift, and to lose him is a heartbreak beyond words. He will be deeply missed. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on June 19th at 10:00 AM at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes, 1900 E 19th St, Cheyenne, WY 82001. A reception will follow at Blue Federal Credit Union Headquarters, 2401 East Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne Wy 82001. In honor of Joe, and because he loved the color purple, the family invites guests to wear something purple as they gather to remember him, share stories, and celebrate a life so deeply loved.
