John “Pa” Peden, 88, of Cheyenne, Wyoming died on May 30, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1937, in Ackmen, Colorado to Garald and Hazel Peden. John grew up in southwest Colorado, and as his story goes… yes, he had to walk up hill both ways, to school and then back home, barefoot, and in the snow! John had quite a sense of humor and wit. He graduated from Durango High School in 1955. After serving in the Army he moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he met his future wife, Judy. In 1961 they eloped to Las Vegas; they shared 57 years of marriage prior to her death in 2018. John lived a rich and meaningful life defined by his love for Judy, his family, friends, and country. John was an avid hunter and fisherman; he loved sharing his knowledge of the outdoors. He was a man with many talents ranging from oil painting, woodworking, and gardening; and in his spare time, he enjoyed reading and playing games. There wasn’t a project he couldn’t figure out. He was very humble and didn’t need recognition for his many accomplishments. John was an example of a life well lived; full of adventure, integrity, and he demonstrated a quiet strength, kindness and service to others.
John’s generous, kind spirit lives on through his children, Terri Peden, Tracy (John) Notgrass, Travis (Tracy) Peden, and Tamra Peden; bonus daughter/sister-in-law Gloria (Smiddy) Smith; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and one sister, Mary Lou.
He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents Garald and Hazel Peden, his brother Dewey, and two sisters, Hazel Mae and Joanie.
Our Pa will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
In memory of John, please enjoy a game night with your family and friends.
