John Everett Hurley Jr.

Cheyenne

Listen to Obituary

John was born on November 3, 1991, in Riverside, California. He moved with his family to Cheyenne in 2003. He was called home May 24, 2025, at 33 years old. He left far too soon.

Johnny was a happy baby and a fun kid. He was interested in everything and caught onto things quickly. People were just drawn to him. He was good-looking, friendly, and had a smile as big as all outdoors. He really liked people, and it showed in the way he treated them.

John attended Hobbs Elementary, McCormick Junior High, and Central High School here in Cheyenne. He dropped out of high school so he could get his GED and enlist in the military. He joined the 115th Fires Brigade of the Wyoming Army National Guard. When he finished Basic Training and Field Artillery Fire Direction School the Brigade was already deployed to Kuwait. He felt he needed to be with his unit, so he caught up with them and finished the deployment. During that time, he realized he liked being deployed so he looked on the internet for deploying units looking for soldiers to fill out their vacancies. He ended up in a Cavalry unit from the Nebraska Army National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan with them. He earned his gold Cavalryman's spurs during that deployment.

After he returned home, he transferred from The National Guard to the Active Army. He was sent to Korea, serving in a howitzer battery near the DMZ. John's next assignment was to the Army's Field Artillery School at Ft Sill, Oklahoma. After that he got out of the Army and came back to Cheyenne.

He worked at the Walmart Distribution Center before getting on with the City of Cheyenne's Department of Public Works at the Water Treatment Plant out on Happy Jack Rd. He managed to earn all four levels of the Water Treatment Certification while working there.

John was always ready to help someone in need. He had a big heart and a generous spirit. John struggled with some demons he brought home from Afghanistan with him, so life wasn't always easy. But he was raised in the faith of Our Lord and no longer has to deal with them and we know we will see him again.

John is survived by his parents, Maureen and John Hurley of Cheyenne, his biological mother, Lisa Pol of Panorama, CA, sister Melinda Conrad, of Gravette, AR, brothers Don Perkins, Havasu, AZ, Kiel Perkins, Hemet, CA, Shawn Hendricks (Yuan Hendricks), Murfreesboro, TN, Jesse Hurley (Amy Hurley), Cheyenne, sister Allie Hurley (Rob Williams), Cheyenne, brothers Bryan Hurley, Cheyenne, and Nathan Hurley, Cheyenne.

Funeral Services will take place Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel, with interment and military honors at Cheyenne National Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow at The Gathering Place.
