Janet Lydia Travis, a devoted obstetrical nurse and cherished member of her family and community, went home to be with her Savior on August 14, 2025, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 87. Born on August 16, 1937, in Alamosa, Colorado, Janet lived a life rich in family and service.
Janet's career in nursing was marked by her dedication and compassion, serving at Memorial and DePaul Hospitals in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Her impact on the lives of countless families during their most vulnerable moments showcased her professionalism and deep commitment to healthcare.
A proud graduate of Winfield High School in Kansas, she furthered her education at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, earning both her RN and BS degrees. This academic foundation allowed her to excel in her nursing practice, from which many benefited throughout her career.
On March 27, 1961, she married B.T. Travis, M.D. Together they nurtured and raised four children—Maria Travis, Jeffrey K. Travis, James L. Travis, and Debbie A. Graham (Jeffery)—instilling in them the values of hard work and kindness. Janet was a loving grandmother to Matthew, Andrew, Sarah, Mary Red, Derby, and Mitchell Bane Travis, offering her warm support and guidance as they grew.
In addition to her professional life, Janet had an array of passions that included reading, flying airplanes, shooting, and rock collecting. She found joy and fulfillment in these hobbies, which brought her closer to nature and sparked her curiosity. A proud member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and the Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club (CRPC), she was deeply engaged in activities that reflected her interests.
Janet is survived by her siblings, Tom Niermann (Helen) and Herb Niermann (Cynthia). She is also remembered with love by many in her community and among her network of friends.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Henry and Edna Niermann, and her beloved husband, BT Travis, M.D., along with her cherished family: sons, James L. Travis, David B. Travis, brothers, Jack Niermann, Hank Niermann, and Karl Niermann, and her sister, Renata Meier.
Her memory will be honored during the visitation with family on August 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes, located at 1900 E 19th St, Cheyenne, Wyoming. A graveside service will follow on August 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens, 4701 Christensen Rd, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Janet Lydia Travis will be remembered as a compassionate nurse, a loving mother, and an inspiring individual who enriched the lives of all who knew her.
