Janet Victoria “Vicki” Tanner, also lovingly known as Grandma and GG, passed away at home on August 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was 83 years old. Vicki was born on April 16, 1943, and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Bud Curtis, and her sister, Pat Johnson.Vicki married Vernon Tanner on June 22, 1962, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Together, they shared 64 years of marriage and built a life filled with family, adventure, service, and countless cherished memories.Vicki and Vernon were blessed with four children: Kimberly (Rob) Bechtle, Terri Shunk (John Lumpkins), Kevin (Donetta) Tanner, and Jimbo (Rhonda) Tanner.Vicki dedicated much of her life to serving others. She worked for Safeway for 10 years. In 1987, she followed Vernon to Guernsey, Wyoming, where she began working for Oregon Trail Bank. She also served as a volunteer EMT, volunteered at the hospital and fire department, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her willingness to help others reflected her caring and generous spirit.Vicki had many hobbies and talents. She enjoyed baking, cooking, painting, bowling, crafting, quilting, and playing bridge. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, and boating. No matter the activity, she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.Vicki loved her family deeply. She gave her time, talents, laughter, and love freely. Her home and heart were places where family gathered; memories were made, and everyone knew they were loved.Vicki was a devoted grandmother who took tremendous pride in her grandchildren: Lucas (Kori) Bechtle, Zach Bechtle, Nichole (Trevon) Hinker, Jordan (Eric) Decker, Justin (Kayla) Shunk, and Amber (Vince) Russell.Her greatest joy was her great-grandchildren: Raelee, Ryan, Paxton, and Charlee Bechtle; Bryden and Collins Hinker, along with a baby girl due in December; Colton, Toby, and Joseph Russell; Wyatt and Taylen Decker; and Parker Shunk. Vicki treasured every moment she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the memories they made together will be cherished forever.Vicki is also survived by her sister, Sue Painter; her brother, Richard (Carol) Curtis; and many nieces and nephews.Vicki’s kindness, creativity, strength, and unwavering love touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed, but the beautiful memories she created and the love she shared will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Vicki’s honor to the Davis Hospice Center or the Alzheimer’s Association of Cheyenne, Wyoming.Please join the family in celebrating the beautiful life of Vicki Tanner on September 15, 2026, from 1:00-4:00pm at Cheyenne Frontier Days Headquarters.
