Listen to Obituary

Hobart “Wayne” Lawrence was called home on September 22 with his wife by his side. He was 90 years old. A “man of men”, Wayne was a loving husband, father, grand-father, uncle and friend. But most of all he was a “mentor to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. A “mentor” on how to be compassionate, loving, kind, and faithful.

Wayne was born in Smithville, Tennessee on March 2, 1935, to Ethel and Herbert Lawrence. Wayne served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church for 65 years. After retiring from Laramie County School District #1 where he worked for 32 years, Wayne began traveling with his wife by his side and grandchildren strapped in. Many wonderful adventures were on the horizons. Wayne found great pleasure in remodeling the house, fishing, hunting and serving his Lord and Savior as the years passed and thousands of miles on the motorhome. He was content to take his wife to Walmart every Friday, picking up items they didn’t really need. After Walmart they drove to Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming looking for animals and basking in God’s wonderful nature. These adventures were one of the highlights of his life. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Sheryl Lawrence (Merklin), son Wendell Lawrence of Saratoga, Wyoming, half brother Herbert Lawrence of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter Desiree (Dustin) Clearly of Green River, granddaughters Ashley and Adella Lawrence of Cheyenne and Granddaughter Heather (Casey) Irvan of Hobart, Indiana, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Lawrence, sisters Edna and Virginia Lawrence, sons Hobart Lawrence, Wayne Lawrence, Jr. and Richard John Lawrence.

As a faithful servant to his Lord, Wayne is now in the arms or the heavenly Father and will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, his gentle mannerisms, dedication to his faith and family were a true testament to how Dad lived his life.

There will be a graveside funeral and military honors on October 7 located at Beth El Cemetery at 10:00 am.
