Gayle Alice Krahling

Gayle Alice Krahling, 82, of Cheyenne died July 30. She was born June 22, 1944, in Washington, DC, to Walter and Alice “Theresa” (Solbach) Doten. She graduated from Ballou High School. In 1965, Gayle married Reeves Krahling. Gayle and Reeves had three daughters, Alice, Beth and Holly. In 1976, Gayle and her family relocated to Cheyenne for her husband’s career. A few years later, career aspirations brought about another move, this time Gayle and her family found themselves in Lakewood, Colorado. After just a little over two years in Colorado, Gayle and her family returned to Cheyenne, where they would stay.

After working a few different part-time jobs in the retail sector, Gayle found employment at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center in 1985. Initially she worked a few different temporary positions. She juggled full-time work and a busy family, while taking courses at Laramie County Community College, coupled with rigorous correspondence courses, in order to earn her credentials as a Medical Records Coder. This would lead Gayle to a permanent position at the VA, working in a career field that she loved, remaining there until she retired.

Gayle spent many enjoyable hours sewing clothes for herself and her family, making quilts, embroidering and doing cross-stitch. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and sudoku. Gayle found many friends over the years through her membership in TOPS and in a Red Hats club. For several years she met regularly with a group of retired VA employees.

Gayle is survived by her daughters, Beth (Evert) Hunnel and Holly (Ron Frank) Krahling; and her beloved cat Nellie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Theresa Doten. After 34 years of marriage, Gayle’s husband, Reeves, passed away in 1999. A few years after Reeves’ death, Gayle was fortunate enough to find a long-term beau, Toni Morrisette. He passed away in 2017. Gayle was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Alice Krahling, in 2019.

Funeral Services are under the care of Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. Viewing will take place on August 10, from 9-12. Funeral service will take place on August 11, at 2:00 pm. Following the service, everyone is invited to join Gayle’s family at the Gathering Place, across the street from the funeral home, for light refreshments and reminiscing.
