Donald Andrew Mawhinney

Donald A. Mawhinney was born July 5th, 1930, in Cleveland Ohio. Don passed away on April 16th, 2025, in Cheyenne Wyoming. Don was born Donald Reinhart, he was given up for adoption and lived in foster care until April 30th, 1937, when he was brought to the home of Vernon and Edna Mawhinney. He was adopted by the Mawhinney's on May 23rd, 1939. Don never knew his birth parents but was told his mother was Lithuanian and his father was German.

Don attended St. Joseph's Catholic school in Ohio until November of 1943. His family then moved to Cheyenne Wyoming where he graduated from Cheyenne High school in June 1948. Don entered the U.S. Navy in March of 1949 and completed twenty years of service, retiring in April 1969. Service included duty in Korea and Vietnam. Don took up residence in San Diego and worked for the U.S. Government as an electronic technician, retiring November of 1990.

He returned to Cheyenne and spent twenty or so years and countless hours volunteering at the Cheyenne Family YMCA. He tried to accommodate any request for help.

Don was incredibly generous to countless people and organizations. Don never married nor did he have any children. Don is survived by several cousins and close friends. Don will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place. As per Don's wishes, no services will be held.
