DeWayne “D.W.” Michael Hepner, aged 71 of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by those he loved on May 30th, 2026.
Born December 22nd, 1954, in Osage, Iowa to Elma and Gary Hepner, he was the oldest of 4 children. In the 1960’s, the Hepner family moved to Cheyenne where they settled and made their home. He graduated from Cheyenne Central High School in 1973 and promptly joined the US Navy. He served as a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam era. After returning home, he started his own business, DW’s Hardwoods, and worked as a carpenter. His passion was working with his hands and his knowledge in that field was unmatched.
In the late 1980’s, DeWayne met Linda Presley. From there a relationship blossomed and they were married June 6th, 1999. Together they shared 37 years of life filled with laughter, stories, music, and his unforgettable dance moves.
His favorite hobbies included gardening, going fishing, and riding his motorcycle whenever he could. He especially loved spending time with his two grandchildren during their summer visits and made every effort to create lasting memories with them.
He is survived by his wife Linda Presley-Hepner; daughter Madori Presley and her husband, David Erb; grandchildren Cameron and Madison Erb of Florida; brother Darrell Hepner and his wife Brenda Littlejohn of Colorado; as well as six nephews. He leaves behind several friends and a legacy that will be long remembered.
He is preceded in death by his brother Doug Hepner; sister Rajean Schiable; and his parents Gary and Elma Hepner.
A private Celebration of Life will be held with his closest friends and family, as he never wanted a formal service to be held.
To those that knew him best, he will always be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his stubborn strength, and the love he gave without needing to say it out loud.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local VFW and/or Combat Veterans in his honor. http://www.vfw.org or http://www.combatvet.us.
