Deloss Raye Schaefer, 71, passed away on October 14, 2026. Born on August 6, 1955, he lived a life rooted in devotion to his family, steady work, and the simple joys that brought people together.
Deloss worked as a painter by trade and also in maintenance at Laramie County Community College. He was a man who enjoyed staying busy and took pride in the things he made and cared for. Among the pleasures that filled his days were car rides with Lucy, his Hungarian hunting dog, and the companionship of other beloved dogs through the years, including Dede “Thumper,” as well as his cat. He also enjoyed canning green beans, asparagus, pickles and eggs, and even had his own business, Deloss’ Delights.
He loved the outdoors and the memories made there. Hunting, fishing, boating, and camping at Hawk Springs with his lake friends were some of the experiences he treasured most. He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers and going to barn dances, places and moments that reflected his love of fun, friendship, and time well spent with others.
One of the great love stories of his life was the one he shared with his wife, Carlene Schaefer. They met in high school during their junior year, and their first date was a barn dance. On July 23, 1975, they were married, and this year they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Together they built a wonderful life, marked by enduring love, shared memories, and deep commitment.
Family was at the heart of Deloss’ life. His proudest accomplishments were his family, raising his son Brad, and the joy he found in his grandchildren, who were the loves of his life. His son, Bradley Schaefer, appreciated having Deloss as a father and treasured all that he taught him about fishing, camping, hunting, and being a good person. Deloss was also a wonderful grandfather who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Carlene Schaefer; his son, Bradley Schaefer and Ali Farrell; and his beloved grandchildren, Payton Schaefer and Lourdes Cardenas. He is also survived by his brother, Alan Schaefer and Cindy “Cricket” Schaefer, niece, Sommer, and his nephew, Adam as well as his best friend of 71 years, Randy Spencer. Each of them carries forward memories of his warmth, his lessons, and the love he gave so freely.
He was preceded in death by his father, Shirden A. Schaefer, and his mother, Esther Niermann.
Deloss Raye Schaefer will be remembered as a hardworking man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a loyal friend who found happiness in family, the outdoors, and the everyday traditions that become lifelong memories. His life was full of love, and his presence will be missed always.
