David (Johnny) Maes, 67 yrs old, of Cheyenne, Wy, Passed away at his home on August 11, 2025.
David (Johnny as he was known by most) , spent his life working in the construction business. For him, it wasn’t just about a job; it was something he truly loved. Whether it was building from the ground up or repairing what others thought couldn’t be fixed, David approached every project with determination and pride.
David was a jack of many trades, the kind of man that had skill and determination that made you believe there was nothing he couldn’t do. David always wanted things done and he was adamant that they were done right. Those who knew him knew he never shied away from a challenge, and he left his mark not only in his work, but in the respect and admiration he earned throughout his life.
David loved hunting, fishing, gambling, his beer, but most of all spending time with his family. There was never a time that he was not lending a hand when you were in need. His sacrifices were great when it came to his family and friends. David was a steadfast friend that was always there without judgement. David was a supportive, loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather to many. David, as a father, always wanted the best for his kids, was supportive, kind, loving, but most of all helped provide a sense of purpose and drive. He was the kind of man that would make your heart fill full and leaving you feeling complete. David always strived to help you be the best you can be.
David is survived by his 3 children Lucretia Maes, Eli Maes, Jonathon Maes, his brother Frank Maes, sister-in-law Kim Maes, nephew Zack White, numerous other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved ones.
David was proceeded in death by his father Christobal Maes, Mother Rose Marie Erickson, Stepfather Eric Erickson, brothers Chris Maes, Henry Maes, Sister Theresa Maes, Ex-wife Patty Maes, Wife Janice Sphar, daughter Leanna Streitmatter and numerous aunts and uncles.
Services will be Tuesday August 19, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Wiedersphahn Chapel of Chimes at 1900 E. 19th street Cheyenne, WY, 82001. With a celebration of life to follow from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at the GI Forum, 619 S. Greeley Hwy. Cheyenne, WY 82007.
