Cleo was born in Denver, Co August 19, 1953 to Martha Maestas and returned to Rawlins, Wy three days later, Pete and Ida Torres were very instrumental in raising her. Cleo passed away December 30th, 2025 at Davis Hospice in Cheyenne with her husband, son and numerous family members present.
Fatigue from her nine years of battles in her war with colon cancer took her before the cancer could.
Cleo graduated from St Joseph's Catholic School and Rawlins High School. She spent many years as a Receptionist/Bookkeeper for Rawlins Optometry and Energy Construction.
Cleo was also a fantastic waitress with 19 years an the Rawlins Elk's Lodge working weekend meals as well as countless Christmas parties and more special events, the last years of this were her most fond years with her favorite partner in mischief Pam Fulkerson. She worked tables for years at Cappy's where she enjoyed her regular customers, some of which were returning travelers and workers coming through to see her again.
Cleo started dating Pat Nealon in March 1992 and they married in June 1999. She and Pat enjoyed many camping adventures at South Brush Creek and later purchased land on Willow Creek in Fremont County cutting firewood, building bonfires and barking at the moon. Her trip of a lifetime was when Cleo and Pat drove from Rawlins to Homer Alaska and back, spread over a month, she said she had a great time but would never spend that much time in a truck or camp trailer again.
Cleo was a wonderful cook and her talents were evident as the inches crept onto Pat's waistline, her enchiladas and flour tortillas being the biggest offenders.
Cleo is survived her husband Pat, son Charlie Montano of Cheyenne, numerous half brothers and sisters including Justin (Marie) Maes of Rawlins, Rita (Tommy Westbrook) Wallace of Alabama and Joe Calderon, sisters in law Mary (Jim) Penland of Rawlins, Anna (Pat Crank) of Cheyenne, Louise (Jack) Mousseau of Ft Collins and Judy (Rick) Huch of Oro Valley, Az, cousins including Patricia (Melesio) Perez of Rawlins as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Martha Calderon, stepfather Jasper Calderon, in-laws Richard and Alma Nealon, special Nino Pete and Nina Ida Torres, niece Gena Duran, nephew Christopher Wallace as well as other family members.
Thanks to Cheyenne Regional Cancer Center and CU Anschutz Medical Center for helping her with her war.
A special shoutout to Davis Hospice, you are worthy of all the kudos I have read in these pages. Per Cleo's demand (for those of you that knew her) there will be no services.
