Charlotte Lou Hauf

January 26, 1941 — June 1, 2025

Cheyenne

Charlotte Lou (Wunch) Hauf, 84, of Cheyenne, was call away by the Lord while at Life Care Center of Cheyenne on June 1, 2025. She was born on January 26, 1941, in Fort Collins, Colorado to David Wunch and Lucille (Meier) Wunch. She was the 3rd of 4 children.

Her father moved the family to Cheyenne, Wyoming because of a work opportunity with the School District. Charlotte was very young at the time. She spent her child hood in Cheyenne, attending Johnson Junior High School and graduating from Cheyenne Central High School.

She met the love of her life, Norman Hauf, when they were both young teenagers. Her mother, Lucille was the Laundry Supervisor at the Memorial Hospital (now the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center) laundry. Norman’s mother went to work for her at the laundry and that’s how they met. They were married at a relatively young age – Norman was 17 and Charlotte was 18. The date was October 6, 1959. They were married for 65 years, until Norman passed. Charlotte went to work at 16 for Mountain Bell, where she retired after 30+ years at the young age of 47. She and Norman had 4 children and lived in Cheyenne their entire lives.

After her retirement, Charlotte loved to exercise and enjoy life. She attended exercise classes 5 days a week and walked every day. She would drag Norman to the Frontier Mall in Cheyenne during winter to walk. There was a whole community of folks who ‘mall walked’, and many friendships were established.

Once, while Norman and Charlotte were visiting relatives in Torrington, Wyoming, their car was stolen. They saw the thief backing out of the driveway and Charlotte ran out of the door and almost succeeded at running the car down…at 65!

Charlotte also loved doing crafts and crossword puzzles. Many family members and friends had needle points or Christmas stockings that were handmade by Charlotte. Additionally, you could always find hidden word and crossword puzzle books piled next to her chair or her side of the couch.

Charlotte was never without a toothpick. She had near-perfect teeth and her Dentist told her one of the reasons for her healthy teeth was the fact that she used toothpicks religiously!

Charlotte is survived by her son, Brett (Doris); daughters: Roxanne Collin (Dale) and Misty Virgin (Patrick); grandkids: Adam, Lucas, Keenan, Brittany, Hollie, Isaac, Kord, Ashlee, Amber, Aric, and Megann. She also has 16 great-grandchildren. She has one brother, David, who is still living. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman; daughter, Candace; her mother and father; sister, Marva; and brother, Marlow (Tony). She will be sorely missed by her surviving family and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Charlotte’s remarkable life on August 2, 2025, at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the conclusion scheduled for 11:00 a.m., as we gather to pay tribute to a life richly lived and loves deeply shared.
