C. Bud Racicky, longtime resident of Cheyenne, died peacefully at the age of 90 on May 19, 2025. Bud was born on November 5, 1934, in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. Upon high school graduation, Bud moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where he attended the University of Wyoming, majoring in Political Science. After an interim service in the United States Army, he graduated from UW in 1961. A gifted salesman, he started selling International Harvester Tractors in Cheyenne and quickly transitioned into the sales of credit life, vendor simple interest and equine insurance. He was a leading agent in Wyoming for decades.
In 1978, he purchased his first Arabian Horses, and his breeding operation blossomed from those beginnings. At the height of his operation, he had over 100 Arabian Horses focused on the Polish strain of the breed. He was instrumental in developing the breed for the State of Wyoming. His farm was known as Prairie Wind Arabians and was located on the former Middle Boice Ranch northeast of Cheyenne. Bud continued pursuing business interests in the insurance industry and the horse business well into his seventies.
Bud was a passionate volunteer for Cheyenne Frontier Days being a member of the Heels organization for over 50 years serving on the Public Relations, Parades (Announcer) and Indian Committees. He was honored to be a Past Chairman of the Indian and Public Relations committees leading them during the years of 1975-77. Bud and his former wife, Arloa were among the founders of the Old West Museum and have supported it since its inception. In short, he loved everything about Cheyenne Frontier Days and was again honored to be inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum Hall of Fame in 2019.
Bud enjoyed his family and relished the time spent with them. He was the proud father of the late Tave’ Racicky Accardo who precedes him in death. He was the stepfather of Tad Herz (Ann) of Denver, Colorado, and had two grandsons, James and Ryan Herz. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Racicky. He is survived by his sister, Helen (Robert) Sheehan, brother, Tony Racicky, and several nephews all living in Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Cheyenne. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Foundation (https://foundation.cfdrodeo.com) for the benefit of the Morning Star American Indian Village.
