Betty Jean Cox, a nearly lifelong resident of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born on May 5, 1948, to Lester and Virginia, Betty was a true daughter of Cheyenne. Her heart belonged to the West, and she was passionate about all things related to her beloved city. She especially loved Cheyenne Frontier Days, the cowboy lifestyle, and Western-themed TV dramas. Betty often reminisced about barrel racing and her participation on the Tom Horn-themed float in the good old days.
Betty had a creative spirit, which she expressed through her crafts and love of jewelry making. She could often be found watching her favorite jewelry and home shopping channels, and she took great pride in gifting her handmade jewelry to her daughters. She loved heartwarming TV shows and movies, especially Christmas movies, but remained firm in her belief that "Die Hard" was not one of them.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She loved nothing more than visits from her local and out-of-town relatives and sharing wild, sometimes unbelievable, stories from her past. Her laugh was infectious and could light up any room. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her creative and personalized gifts, and her deep admiration for the Cowboy and Western way of life.
She is survived by her daughters, Tammy (husband Mark) of Denver and Kimberly (husband David) of Houston; her grandchildren, Kari, Evan, Tyler, and Victoria; her brother, Don (wife Mary Lou) of Cheyenne; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Virginia, and her siblings, Jerry, Lester (Bobe), and Mary.
Betty’s warmth, laughter, and unforgettable stories will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
