Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Benjamin "Ben" Edward Nelson, who left us far too soon on October 4, 2025, at the age of 51.

Ben was a proud member of the Indians Little League Baseball organization, Post 6 Hawks, and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Central High School in 1993 and attended the University of Wyoming where he graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 1998, which would become his career moving forward.

Ben lived life on his own terms and danced to the beat of his own drum. Always with love, laughter and happiness. He had a special way of bringing people together—whether it was around a pool table, on the golf course, watching the big game, or just enjoying good times with friends and family. He had a genuine ability to make everyone feel like they belonged. Whether he was cracking a joke, cheering on his favorite team, or making memories at family gatherings, he made life better just by being there.

Ben was an avid pool player and enjoyed competing in leagues and tournaments with his Dad, Brother and countless friends. He also thoroughly enjoyed playing golf and was a huge part in making timeless memories in the number of events, tournaments and outings that many have experienced with him. He had a true passion for sports. He enjoyed competing in, watching and betting on many different sports. His absolute favorites being the Wyoming Cowboys, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Indians. Many of his lifelong friendships stem from his sporting life. He was a cherished son, the "baby" of the family , a faithful brother (best friend), a proud uncle who never missed a chance to express his love for his "NERDS" (nieces), and a loyal friend to so many. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled. Ben is survived by his parents Chuck and Joyce Nelson, brother Clint Nelson, sister Cheryl Nye, his five NERDS Sydney Dryden (Taylor), Tori Nye, Jessika Heien (Ben), Haley Nye and Megan Nelson, and a large number of extended family and friends that were considered family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ole and Thelma Johnson, and Clue and Margaret Nelson. We will celebrate Ben’s life the way he would’ve wanted—with stories, laughter, and love. A celebration of life will be held on October 17 at 2pm at Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne, WY. With a reception to directly follow at the same location. All who knew and loved Ben are welcome to attend. The family asks that you wear your Indians, Broncos or Cowboys gear in celebration.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by making a donation in his name to the Black Dog Animal Rescue in Cheyenne or a charity of your choice, and most importantly by spending time with those you love, watching a game, hitting the golf course, or simply sharing a laugh—just as he would have wanted.
