Barry "Joe" Baccei

May 31, 1937 — December 18, 2023

Barry Joseph "Joe" Baccei went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2023.

Joe was born in Rutland Vermont on May 31, 1937. He was the only child of Geno Joseph Baccei and Gabrielle Mary Charron. Joe's Grandparents emigrated from Carrara, Italy and his family were skilled stonecutters.

Joe grew up in Columbus, Ohio and had many fond memories of building rafts and floating on the Ohio River when he was young. Joe attended Catholic school and was a lifelong devout Catholic.

In 1957, after a couple of years of college, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force; he was a patriotic American and was very proud of his service. Joe was initially trained as an Aircraft Hydraulic Repairman and excelled at working on KC-135 aircraft while stationed in California. Upon reenlisting in 1959, he trained as a Missileer and was assigned to the 565th Strategic Missile Squadron (Strategic Air Command) at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

At Warren AFB Joe met his future wife Sharon, who ran the base stables. After leaving the Air Force in 1961, Joe went to work for Sharon at the stables and three years later they were married.

Joe and Sharon bought some land north of Cheyenne in 1966, and named it the Diamond B ranch. They built a sheep operation and raised their three daughters there. After the Warren AFB stables closed in the 1990's Joe worked building barns as well as building and repairing fences for local ranchers. Everything he built was incredibly strong and well crafted, to stand up against the Wyoming wind and weather. Joe still worked alone, out on the Wyoming prairie, maintaining fences, well into his 80's.

Joe will be missed by Sharon, his loving wife of 59 years; as well as daughters, Lisa, Lynne, and Leah; and grandchildren, Hannah Bagley, Ethan Marshall, Riley Mueller, and Nathan Mueller, as well as his "little brother", Ben. Joe was a friend to many and had a positive influence on the lives of many young people who rode at the stables.

A Funeral Liturgy will be on Wednesday, December 27, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with a reception to follow at Hartman Hall. Interment will take place at Cheyenne National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with military honors.
